One video, every platform
Shot in landscape but need a vertical clip for Reels? VidShift's video resizer converts any video to the exact resolution and aspect ratio you need. Choose a preset like 1080x1920 for TikTok and Shorts, 1080x1080 for Instagram, or 1920x1080 for YouTube, or type any custom size. Each preset shows both the pixel dimensions and the aspect ratio so you always know what you are getting, and the custom fields keep your original ratio locked unless you deliberately unlock them.
Pick how the video should fit the new frame. Cover, the default, scales the video until the frame is completely filled and trims whatever falls outside, which is what you usually want when turning a landscape clip into a vertical one. Fit keeps the whole frame visible and adds padding bars instead of cropping, ideal when nothing can be cut off. Fill stretches the video to the exact dimensions, which can distort the picture but guarantees no bars and no cropping. The fit options only appear when the target aspect ratio differs from the source, so you are never asked to make a choice that has no effect.
Resolution and file size go hand in hand. Downscaling to a smaller resolution throws away pixels the new size cannot use, so the output is both smaller on screen and lighter on disk, which means resizing doubles as a quick compression pass. Upscaling, on the other hand, cannot invent detail that was never captured, so a 720p clip blown up to 4K will look soft. For the sharpest result, resize at or below your source resolution.
As with every VidShift tool, resizing happens entirely in your browser using WebAssembly and WebCodecs. Nothing is uploaded, there is no queue and no file size cap, and the audio track is carried across untouched so only the picture is re-encoded. Your video never leaves your device, which keeps the whole process fast and completely private.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best size for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube?
Reels, TikTok and Shorts use 1080x1920 (9:16). Instagram feed uses 1080x1080 (1:1) or 1080x1350 (4:5). YouTube uses 1920x1080 (16:9). All are one-click presets.
Will resizing lower the quality?
Downscaling keeps the video sharp at the smaller size. Upscaling cannot add detail, so we recommend staying at or below the original resolution.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Resizing happens locally in your browser using WebAssembly, so nothing is uploaded and the process stays completely private.
