How VidShift works

VidShift converts video and audio files entirely in your browser using WebAssembly and WebCodecs. Your files are never uploaded to a server. All processing happens locally on your device, which means we have no access to your media files at any point.

Data we collect

Analytics

We use Google Analytics (measurement ID: G-CFETK5Y1KG) to understand how visitors use VidShift. Google Analytics collects information such as:

  • Pages visited and time spent on each page
  • Browser type, operating system and screen resolution
  • Referring website or search engine
  • Approximate geographic location (country or city level, derived from IP address)
  • Conversion events (format chosen, quality setting, completion status)

This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally. Google Analytics may set cookies in your browser. You can opt out by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by using a browser that blocks third-party cookies.

Local storage

VidShift stores a small amount of data in your browser's local storage to remember your preferences:

  • Theme preference - whether you chose light, dark or auto mode
  • Guided tour state - whether you have dismissed the introductory tooltips

This data never leaves your browser and is not sent to any server.

Service worker

VidShift registers a service worker that caches the application so it can work offline. The cache stores only VidShift's own assets (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, icons). No personal data or media files are stored in the service worker cache.

Data we do not collect

  • We do not collect, access or store any of your video or audio files
  • We do not require an account, email address or any personal information to use VidShift
  • We do not use advertising or tracking pixels beyond Google Analytics
  • We do not sell or share data with third parties for marketing purposes

Cookies

VidShift itself does not set any cookies. However, Google Analytics may set cookies (such as _ga and _gid) to distinguish unique visitors and track sessions. These are first-party cookies set under the vidshift.io domain.

Third-party services

The only third-party service VidShift uses is Google Analytics, as described above. No other external services receive data from your use of VidShift.

Children's privacy

VidShift does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. Since no account or personal details are required to use VidShift, we do not collect age-related information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
